Kelly heard Riley’s voice in the kitchen and hurried her pace, she knew Dale was there and there was no way in hell she was leaving them alone. As soon as Dale saw her come in, he didn’t wait any longer and blurted out the news to Riley.

Dale: Ok, I am not waiting until noon, I’ll give you my answer at once: I can’t go with you to that gala, I’m really sorry.

There, the bomb has been dropped. Riley is frozen. Kelly certainly heard everything and was happy that Dale turned down Riley’s invitation, but at the same time she wonders how she will react, and if now they will have to start looking for another apartment.
