Because he was bored with the Han's Cafe and Tavern, and because you can never have too many bars in the same town, Terence bought the Varg's Tavern. It's his first business move after his marriage and he's satisfied in general with the purchase, since it was quite a bargain.
As soon as he got the keys from the old owner, he took Cynthia to see it.
The place is not exactly what she would have chosen, but she'd never dare to question Terry's good judgment for business.
