"You know," Dustin said, as they sat down on the couch after he was able to control his excitement about the aliens. "I'm beginning to think that this whole 'state secret' thing, the persecution and all, isn't because of how many kids you had or the 'methods' you used for it."
"Yeah? And what's ir for then?"
"I don't know, there must be another reason, one serious enough to have issued an arrest warrant."
"True, arrest warrants are not common in Oasis Landing. Hardly anyone commits crimes there anymore, no one steals or kills, they don't do anything illegal because they don't need to. The police are there just to assist the citizens, and in case there's a riot or something.
"There must be a lot of riots there."
"There are a few from time to time, yes", Robin answered.
"But almost no one is arrested in such riots. No one gets arrested at all, unless the Council believes that you are some kind of threat to the security of the Oasis", he stated.
"So why are you now considered a threat to their security?"
"I don't know, maybe for violating population laws?"
"Ah, nonsense."
"If they cared about the law there wouldn't be 'privileged' people doing whatever they want. What I believe is that there's something about you and your blood, your genes specifically, that interests them".
"You're saying there might be something harmful in my DNA?"
"I'm saying that's what they think. Otherwise, why so much secrecy with the information about your parents? And if by any chance they're alive why didn't anyone ever tell you, not even Emit?
"I - I have no idea."
"Neither do I, but I have so many questions"
"For one thing, if your father and mother are alive and kicking, why don't they live in Oasis Landing with you? The answer I can think of is… Because there's something in their genes, or in the genes of one of them, that frightened the Council, something you naturally inherited. Your parents were a security threat, they were probably banished, and now you are a concern to the authorities to the point of wanting to arrest you. That is the 'state secret' Emit doesn't want to talk about."
"That makes sense, but - What could be wrong with my DNA? I mean, I feel normal, and I am, at least that's how I've felt my whole life for as long as I can remember."
"Except after your accident with the portal, right?"
"Right."
