Jean stayed downstairs to look after his little siblings Henri and Marlene so that his parents could talk in peace.
--
While Tony was on the phone, Jeannine showered and changed clothes as quickly as she could.
From what she could gather, the call didn't last long, but Tony still hadn't come upstairs. Jeannine was eaten up by curiosity as to what Cassandra had called him about. Cause it was her, there was no doubt about it. That was all over Tony's face.
--
But what would she want? Why was she calling him? Had they left something pending? Would there be another appointment? If so, what would happen to her, and their marriage? The security she had felt when she kissed Tony a few minutes ago had now turned to sheer doubt.
Jeannine was already beginning to drown in her anguish when Tony appeared on the terrace.
"I'm here," he told her "Sorry for the delay."
" That was Cassandra who called, wasn't she?"
"Yes," Tony replied after a sigh.
"¿And--?"
"And nothing, that's not important now."
"Please, Tony, don't lie to me, tell me anything. I've been through so much, believe me, I can take it."
"Jean, we're fine, nothing has changed between us, trust me."
"I want to, but, to be frank, when you left for Starlight Shores I thought you'd come back just to ask me for a divorce."
"Divorce? Jean, for God's sake, we just got married."
"I know, but..."
"No buts, darling. I'm here, with you. And yes, Cassandra called, but, like I said, that doesn't change anything."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course I am".
"Our honeymoon was interrupted but now that we're together again we're going to resume it."
"Meaning?"
"Meaning we'll return to Champs Les Sims anytime you want."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Sounds great, but what about the kids?"
"They can stay with Jean and Bradley. They're looking after them just now, which I find very convenient."
"Tony..."
"I love you, Jeannine, I really do. Nothing and no one is going to take me away from you, I promise."
Another kiss seals the promise. Jeannine believes him, but-- does he believe in his own word? Will Tony Langerak, the elusive, usually unfaithful adventurer keep his promise this time?
