A Truce for the Langeraks

Magic can't save a marriage, that much is true. Not even with his talent for magic could Jason make things go well between Reneé and him. Anything was a reason for her to get angry.

One of those things were Jason's parties, she simply hated them, she couldn't stand them, she found them extremely boring, plus Jason's friends got on her nerves.

Each time Jason threw a party, Reneé would get cranky. She hardly talked to the guests and preferred to isolate herself in the farthest possible corner.

So Jason took refuge in the bar, in order not to deal with his wife's bad attitude. Those gatherings almost always ended in long arguments for the dumbest reasons. One of Reneé's favorite excuses to fight was that 'Jason was very fond of drinking'.

"Don't you think you've already had too much to drink, darling?"
"I just had a couple of glasses, and please, don't make a scene in front of our friends".

"Our friends? You mean your friends, cause those aren't mine. Besides, I don't think they'd care, They're too busy taking the buffet by assault and invading my pool".
"Stop criticizing my friends. I don't criticize yours, or the few you still have".
And so the fight started. Jason accused Reneé of being a diva; she took offense and responded with more insults. But as usual.. the feud ended with a sweet reconciliation.

"Forgive me honey, I'll never imply again that your mother looks like a llama".
"And I'll never accuse you of being a diva never again".
Their relationship was like a roller coaster, ups and downs all the time. Fight-reconciliation-fight. Rinse and repeat. The vicious cycle went on forever.

Josie was used to it, her parents fought all the time and then made peace. For how long would their latest truce last? She wished it would last for the rest of the summer, that would make her time at home and far from school more enjoyable. What a problem it was to be the daughter of two celebrities!

Josie's wish was fullfilled, or at least it semeed so for a few days at least. Things between Jason and Reneé went well. They left together for their respective gigs, they shared a limousine, they wouldn't separate from each other for anything, not even for their autograph signing sessions.

The problem emerged when Reneé noticed that Jason got more attention from the fans than she did. The Amazing Jason, a simple magician, received more attention than her, Reneé Dumont, a Superstar singer?"

That unleashed Reneé's professional jealousy again. She couldn't help it, she loved Jason, yes, but he receiving more attention that her irritated her greatly, although that happened only for moments.

Like the diva she was, Reneé needed everybody's eyes on her, but above all Jason's.

She had always been conflictive and childish, which turned worse with the mid-life crisis.

Mid-life crisis hadn't affected Jason in the slightest, but he did have to put up his wife's sudden mood swings and jealousy.

Suddenly, at the end of the summer, an unexpected event saved the Langeraks from an imminent divorce: Reneé discovered that she was pregant. Just when she thought Josie would be her only daughter forever, and in the midst of her mid-life crisis! The news hit her like a bucket of cold water.
"Me, pregnant? This can't be, now my career will go down the drain, and all because of my stupid make-up with Jason!"

Reneé felt she was done, but she couldn't do anything about it, except giving the news to the culprit, in this case, Jason.
"Darling, I have some news for you. I recommend that you sit back and take it easy".

Jason not only took it calmly, he was happy. The Langeraks had always had large families, why wouldn't he? Reneé didn't find that funny. After after reproaching him that it was his fault she was in this situation, she made it clear to him that they wouldn't be a 'large family', and that this would be their last baby, because 'they were no longer at an age for this kind of thing'. Jason didn't want to make her angry so he didn't argue with her about this.

In spite of Reneé's protests, her pregnancy brought peace to the family and meant some kind of truce between she and Jason, which made Josie extremely happy.
"I'm going to have a little sibling, how exciting! The best of all is that my parents will stop fighting now". And so it was... at first. But sadly, the truce of the Langeraks wouldn't last very long.

madre mía, siempre he pensando como no te lías con esta mega-hiper-ultra-gigantesca historia, ¿te das cuenta que tu historia es equivalente a la de 100 años de Soledad?
