Aimless

April 2, 2013

Another ordinary day at the University had gone by for Dean.
After dealing with one more class, studies and homework, he ended the afternoon ended at the cafeteria, eating a cupcake as dinner.
Then, for a change, he went to a party at the Frat house. There, the challenges of the night were: 1) Run nakedy 2) Drink until getting drunk. Dean was surprised by how easy was for him to complete the first one. The second one wasn't hard at all, since drinking was his specialty lately. What was he turning into? Had he lost his way or was he just the typical university student?

While he solved the existential doubts that kept assailing him, he took refuge in the "juice" keg.
He didn't know if he was hallucinating or that werewolf was really there.
"I must have had a lot to drink".

He was around his fourth glass when...
"How? Am I so drunk that I've started to see fairies in the dorm?"
Finally, Dean met the second challenge, but he ended drunk as a skunk. He hoped he could make it home safe and sound.
"If I continue like this I'll turn into an alcoholic before I graduate".
Already at home, drunk and feeling as lonely as ever. Dean doesn't know how long he would be able to put up with this.
At night he dreamed that he returned home, to Hidden Springs, with his family, his friends, and with that impossible and lost love. Truth is he didn't sleep well.
And he woke up feeling tired and angry.
"Six am already? But I didn't sleep at all!"
He had to drink a strong coffee to wake up and be able to go to class.
And of course, on the day they had their practice outdoors, a downpour started. The professor's order was to continue working. They had to be professional.
"Professional! If it's more than clear that I am a better musician than I am a cartoonist".
In the end he was glad that the class was over. He was soaked. He had to return home soon and change his clothes before he would catch a cold.
Already dry and in a better mood, Dean spent the afternoon practicing with the guitar and he learned a new song: "A Përfect Moment". That made him feel a bit better.
In the evening, at another of Jeff's parties, he met Liz Tarry. It was evident that she liked him and he thought she wasn't bad, but once more he beat the temptation of being unfaithful. How long would he resist?
That night he had so much to drink that he ended dancing and singing the University cheer by himself, when almost everybody had left. Could he go any lower?
On his way home, although very drunk, he could realize one thing: his life had to change course immediately or it was going to end badly.
"I will be a different person, yeah, I'll start tomorrow".
